PMP Revised Syllabus Study Guide 2008 Edition

According to the PMI, the PMP is by far the project management credential of choice across a vast array of industries and companies. By attaining the PMP credential, your name will be included in the largest and most prestigious group of certified professionals in the project management community.

To be eligible for the PMP certification, you must first meet specific education and experience requirements specified by the PMI and agree to adhere to a code of professional conduct. The final step in becoming a PMP is passing the PMP credential examination.

The PMP examination consists of multiple-choice questions that is designed to measure your comprehension of the newly revised BOK:

  • Initiating the Project……11%
  • Planning the Project……23%
  • Executing the Project……27%
  • Monitoring and Controlling the Project……21%
  • Closing the Project……9%
  • Professional and Social Responsibility……9%

This BOK is just a new presentation of the same old PM framework, with some small changes in the actual contents (let's face it, there hasn't been any major breakthrough in the field of PM these recent years). Upon closer examination, one can easily spot the phrases that represent the key disciplines PMI attempted to integrate into the PM framework, including Change Management, Risk Management, Quality Management, Procurement Management and Professional Ethics. Professional ethics and conducts have been clearly illustrated by PMI on the Professional Practices session of its web site. The other disciplines, however, do require further attention and exploration.

Domain 2:
Develop Change Management Plan
Identify Risks and Define Risk Strategies

Domain 3:
Implement the Procurement of Project Resources
Implement Quality Management Plan
Domain 4:
Verify and Manage Changes to the Project
Ensure Project Deliverables Conform to Quality Standards
Monitor all Risks

Domain 6:
Ensure Individual Integrity (check out PMI's professional practices)

In the eyes of the PM professionals, PM is not just PM alone. Instead, PM is an art and science that spans across multiple disciplines. Our PMP Study Guide enhances your exam readiness by covering the various PM theories and techniques as well as providing you with readings on all the above disciplines, just to ensure that you won't get caught unprepared. By helping you truly build up a competitive PM mindset, your ability to pick the BEST choice out of a number of valid but inferior choices is guaranteed.
